The title of the quest pretty much explains my issue. I can never get an episode or tv show to refresh the watch status until i restart kodi, however with movies, it's instant, why?

Weird... Checking the watched status should always be instant as it is read from the same database as with movies.
Can you get us a debug log (wiki) for more details?

 Sorry i might have worded this wrongly, not UDP, it's over UPNP. If you still want the debug log, is it the debug log of the server side?

I updated the topic title, but I'm still not sure why movie updates should be okay and tv shows/episodes require a restart. I don't use UPnP myself (too many disadvantages), a centralized database works for me.

You can provide the debug log (wiki), but I'm probably not the best candidate for checking it when it comes to UPnP. Others will have to step in.
