Well, i am not an expert, but are you guys sure that DXVA is good way to go?
Won't be OpenCL better way for XBMC?

Thoretically without doubt. But it could take months before OpenCL is ready for primetime. Although I might be wrong and all the pieces of the puzzle could already be on the table.

openCL is NOT an alternative to dxva.

Again, the OpenCL discussion is off-topic for this thread, please post in the dedicated OpenCL thread instead:

@BrokenCodes, great to hear to hear that you are looking into native DXVA rendering Nod
...and yes please give us a brief 'theory' breakdown on the concept you will be using Big Grin

Hi Gamester17... the OpenCL thread is closed, though. Smile Which doesn't suggest that this one is the right one to speak about OpenCL, obviously.

That's right, I forgot, yeah the OpenCL fanboyz got crazy hijacking every single thread they could find to try to push OpenCL onto XBMC developers no matter if it whether it was appropriate or not, thus having exactly the opposite effect that those fanboyz wanted.

Anyone can feel free to start a new separate thread about OpenCL, but before you do please read and follow the forum usage guidelines for thread thread:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Forum_Usage_Guidelines
and I highly recommend that you also read this article and follow the tips in it before posting in it:

Now lets please get back on-topic to talk about DXVA, and nothing but DXVA in this thread. Thanks!

While waiting for BrokenCodes updates, I wonder whether his approach is going to use the "standard" MPC-HC codecs or if it's going to be a "choose your codec" approach, allowing for PowerDVD's codecs or others.

Even the first solution would do, as MPC-HC has progressed greatly in its compatibility with different levels of encoding. How does VDPAU fares in this? Strictly L4.1?

@BrokenCodes: that's some very cool news you are bringing us, this will be very appreciated by the community so many thanks to you. The webbrowser API sounds very cool as well. Good luck Smile

My patch, when completed will allow usage of your own codecs and will allow for the making of codec packs, specific to your card vender.
The codec configs will be loaded via XML.

Well forgive our doubtfulness but it just seems too good to be true, and things that are too good to be true usually are. But I look forward to my doubts being squashed as you prove me wrong and finish/publicize the patch that brings HW support to Windows!
