Solved Screen tearing on Ubuntu 18.04 using GTX 950M
#1
Debug log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/YSCz9dhw5b/
Distro: Ubuntu 18.04
GPU: GTX 950M (Proprietary drivers installed)
CPU: CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-4720HQ

I'm experiencing an extreme amount of horizontal screen tearing on Kodi. It isn't very obvious during static shots but when a camera starts to pan it is obvious that there is a lot of screen tearing going on (for my eyes there are multiple tears going on simultaneously . I tried following "https://kodi.wiki/view/Linux_FAQ#Video_tearing_on_Nvidia_GPUs" but I have no option "Unredirect Fullscreen Window". Whenever I try option 2 (disabling Composite through xorg.conf, even though Compiz is already telling the Composite plugin is disabled), Ubuntu is not booting into a GUI anymore and gets stuck in an endless loop trying to start the GUI. I tried using the Intel integrated GPU but for some reason that is showing Kodi as a black screen on external monitors so I'm bound to using the GPU. Whenever I open the debug-information overlay it is showing that the FPS during a movie is always above 1000+ FPS, even though I'm watching a 24 fps movie.

Nvidia drivers in Linux are not optimal... They won't even support 10-bit video. :-\

Screen tearing is also a long-standing problem. You can try this: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxquestions/...vidia_390/

Wow this instantly fixed it thanks! The debug-overlay now shows 60FPS instead of somewhere in the thousands.
