well, weather data is big business and finding a company that provides it for free is almost impossible.
both wunderground and openweathermap used to be great a few years ago, but they've been rapidly cutting down their free api features over the past years.

while there are dozens of alternative weather api providers available, the free features are always limited.

that being said, i was looking at https://weatherbit.io last night, it might be an option for a new weather addon...

Separately from Kodi I also use www.windy.com as a stand alone web based weather site, and it is an extremely powerful tool. The principle developer has another web business in the Czech Republic but his stated aim is that Windy remains free for community use, especially where correct weather forecasting is a safety consideration. Windy is not a weather provider as such, but instead aggregates and displays data from other (mostly) free sources and APIs in one page via a multi layer approach.

I'm not a developer so I'm not sure if their API is useful for Kodi purposes from a technical point of view, but here are some links anyway. They offer both free and paid APIs, but also state:

"Interesting, and non-commercial sites, using Windy API can ask for free upgrade to paid version. The condition is, that your project will be open sourced on GitHub. If this is your case, use the same form for paid version and describe your request."

And for developers and programmers that would like to contribute: https://community.windy.com/topic/5601/l...ors-wanted

Perhaps Kodi would fit the criteria of being an interesting non-commercial application? Maybe it is worthwhile contacting them (especially since the impact on their API from Kodi would be significant)?

Hope this helps Smile

i had a look at windy, but it only provides a javascript api targeted a devs who want to embed weather data on their website.
sadly that's not suitable for a kodi addon.
