Req Using any subtitle in folder
#1
I have a lot of episodes and subtitles in a folder. But if I want to play episodes with subtitles, I have to rename all subtitles (same name as the episode) or I have to select them manually during the playback.
Is there a plugin to "smart-select" any available subtitle from the current folder? I hope it was understandable against my poor English. Smile
Thank you.

And how is an add-on supposed to know which subtitle goes with which episode?

Rename your files. It is not that hard. Use a bulk renamer.

How did you get your subtitles with different filenames in the first place..?
Kodi names the subtitles correctly when downloaded.
And as already suggested, there are plenty of bulk renaming tools out there. Free, and for every OS.
It will save you from a lot of oncoming frustration when videos auto-start with the correct subtitle.

I have no problem with renaming... Just prefer the easy way. Think about Autosubs. It can find subtitles automatically, but seaching subtitles by hand is easy to handle too. But some prefers.
How the addons knows what subtitle fits? I think it's not so hard to figure out. If I have one subtitle in the episode folder, it's easy. If I have more episodes in one folder with subtitles, I think it can select it wisely, I think I can do an algorithm for this... Smile

That is still the current situation. Kodi has no artificial intelligent brain with fuzzy logic to know whatever named subtitle file fits with your video file. It doesn't matter how many episodes are in one folder: if there is a filename mismatch, you'll have a subtitle selection problem.

I suggest use Regexp... But you know what? Nevermind.

If you want to do it properly: get rid of all the useless scene naming, and rename your files properly. The same for your subtitle files. Obviously you got the subtitle files from a different source, so that comes with a bit of extra work.

So, use a renaming tool, spend a couple of hours of your time renaming your collection (it's weekend anyway), scrape them into a newly created video library, and you'll have no more subtitle issues with them.

Don’t expect us to make it easy for you to use files from directly from pirate sources, besides there are plenty of download tools to tidy files to have Kodi compatible naming.
