I have been having the same problem since the 7.1 upgrade. Consequently, I believe the problem is with Nvidia Shield and not with Kodi itself, but of course, I could be wrong. However, mine stops playback and takes me all the way out to the home screen. It wouldn't be so bad if it took me out to the menu where the movie is listed. At least then I could simply re-start the playback at the appropriate point. That is bad enough but by taking me out to the home screen I'm required to go back in and find the movie, start it over from the beginning and the fast forward to the approximate point where I lost playback. I have already cleared the data on Kodi and started fresh but it did not correct the problem.
If anyone has the fix for this I would so appreciate knowing how to correct it. I am almost to the point of a factory reset on the Shield.
