Yes that is correct.
I wondered myself how a calibrated display would work if HDR is always on or off and playing both contents.
It probably will depend on the TV manufacturers how to handle that.
I have a Panasonic OLED and have the Htpc connect to one HDMI 1 input. I can set brightness for HDR and SDR independently - and that is good.
I use MPC and Madvr for HDR at the moment and Madvr does automatic switching.
