No problem, I probably wasn't as detailed as I should have been.
After digging through your settings further, I now see how to deselect pre-defined channels, so that's cool. And one mystery solved! One of the predefined channel types is "TV show," and Hey Arnold was one of the three selected, so I guess that's why I had a channel that was nothing but episodes of that. But poking around here did make me notice something else interesting: for each of the predefined categories, the instructions say to select "one or more" items within the category. Is one a hard lower bound intentionally? Like, each of the predefined categories seems to have three default selections (at least for me), and I am easily able to deselect. But I never seem to be able to completely eliminate that predefined category. The last one always remains, even if I deselect it.
Also, completely unrelated question as I continue to play around with this (sidebar: THANK YOU for making this, your work is absolutely brilliant). Is there a cap on how many items can be pulled from a smart playlist into a user-defined channel that is pointing to it? Just curious, because anecdotally, it really seems that my user-defined 90s Nickelodeon channel isn't pulling from the full set of episodes in the smart playlist. I have about 17 TV shows that comprise the relevant smart playlist, but the user-defined channel based on the playlist seems to only ever want to play episodes of about half of them. I totally expect some degree of imbalance in the distribution (hoping that this will eventually improve with advanced channel rules) given that some of the shows have far more episodes than others. But I see episodes of a show with only one 13 episode season with some regularity, and yet have yet to see an episode appear – even looking ahead on the guide – for another with over 120 episodes.
