I don't think you can purchase or rent a video using the Amazon VOD plugin, only play the videos that you've already bought/rented. When try to play an unavailable video, it (eventually) fails. So I don't think you're going to accidentally buy or rent something on Amazon in Kodi.
OTOH, the orange highlight for purchased videos doesn't always work exactly as expected. E.g., I bought a single episode of a season of a TV series and all the season's episodes seemed to be highlighted as available. In practice, only the single episode I bought would play, the rest would fail -- and not trigger a purchase. That's probably actually a bug I should report now that I think about it . . .
