Android Video judder on 25fps on Sony Android TV with Kodi v18.9.0
#1
Hi, I was unsure if I was allowed to resurrect the thread HERE, because I'm seeing the exact same issues with Kodi v18.9.0 on my Sony Android TV (with Mediatek MT5893).
There's a little freeze and jerk every about 5-6 seconds only with some movies in MKV that have, like described on the linked thread, a framerate of 25 fps but an original frame rate of 23.976 (24000/1001) FPS.

So here there's a sample media info:

Format                                   : Matroska
Format version                           : Version 4
File size                                : 1.35 GiB
Duration                                 : 41 min 10 s
Overall bit rate                         : 4 706 kb/s
Writing application                      : mkvmerge v8.3.0 ('Over the Horizon') 64bit
Writing library                          : libebml v1.3.1 + libmatroska v1.4.2

Service kind                             : Complete Main
Default                                  : Yes

All the other configurations, such as those files without Original frame rate different from the Frame rate play correctly in Kodi; however, the same problematic file plays correctly with the Media Player of the TV via DLNA.

So I'm asking if this is a "known issue" and something that cannot be fixed or should it already work? I love Kodi and don't want to switch to the Sony Media Player, if possible.

I'm noticing the same behaviour with Kodi 19.0 on Sony Android TV v.9.0. Disabling "surface" HW acceleration makes the files play smooth but definitely less sharp.

Yep, I tried all the settings and the micro-lag every 5-6 seconds happens every time.
Of couse it's a matter of the original file, but it seems that only Kodi has issues while the TV DLNA Media Player has not.

FYI, there is no need to quote the entire long post with just a single line of text reply.

Still the same issue for me on Kodi 19.3. Any other?

Well for starters, Sony TV's run all Android software at 60fps, so it's very likely you will notice some issues if playing 25fps material.

24fps plays reasonably fine because of 3:2 pulldown.

The built-in Media Player probably has access to some Sony private API that allows it to change the framerate..

Is this build merged yet? Or will there be further updates to the test environment?

Ugh, serves me right for browsing on mobile. I meant to post this in the stickied anti-stutter thread.

I'm not sure that Sony TV is the origin of the problem because not all the 25fps contents have problems but only contents at 25fps but original framerate at 23.976fps as described in the opening post. Also, disabling HW acceleration in Kodi settings everything plays well but softer.

I don't understand the "contents fps vs original fps" thing. Video can only have one framerate. Perhaps the files have invalid packaging showing 25fps in the header while actual stream is 23.976fps? This might confuse Kodi player, perhaps it setups the screen at 25fps and tries to play the 23.976fps video with that?

Anyone still having this problem? I'm on a Sony TV (Android TV 10) and Kodi 19.5.
