Ubuntu Kodi Session on Wayland Possible?
#1
Hi, I am using Kodi on Ubuntu 20.04.3

I am logging into kodi as a session (little gear icon at the ubuntu login screen)

I'm curious, can I make a kodi session use Wayland rather than X11? My TV is 4k60 but X11 only allows 4k30, wayland allows it to be set at 4k60. I tried installing "Kodi-Wayland but got dependency errors. Any help would be appreciated, thank you

as of v19 kodi supports X11, Wayland and GBM from a single binary, so no need to install kodi-wayland anymore.
Just run kodi and it will automatically use wayland if a wayland session is detected.
But: wayland does not support refresh rate switching, so it's unlikely to solve your issue. You might want to post a debug log from an X11 or GBM/console session to see what's going on

How did you conclude that X11 only allows 4k30?
I also use X11 and 4k60 works without any issues.

What's your gpu/mainbard (in case you use integrated gpu).
Could it be possible that your gpu/mainboard only has an HDMI1.4 port (which would be limited to 4k30)?
