I wouldn't consider this a solution (or at least it is a solution to the support but not to the general problem) - it is perfectly reasonable for a windows machine to have network drives that are not currently mapped - the mapping may depend on the presence or absence of a portable machine for example, or on some kerberos authentication etc. Kodi shouldn't suddenly grind to a halt in such situations. This is a bug, and a serious one at that. I have the same problem but cannot remove the network drive as that drive is necessary.
