Solved Missing details on how to create NFOs for custom movie sets/collections
#1
I use Kodi on multiple computers/platforms in my home and I want to create a custom movie collection/set that is picked up by scraping (i.e. I do not have to manually add something on multiple devices). With other similar issues (e.g. scraping movie titles) I would use an NFO to do this. Unfortunately, the instructions on the Wiki are too sparse to do this successfully.

Specifically, the wiki here (https://kodi.wiki/view/Movie_sets) gives the code that is supposed to be put into the NFO file, but does not give further details on what to title the NFO file or where to place it. For movie scraping I have simply been putting an NFO file with a link to the TMDB page for the movie in it, titling it movie.nfo, and placing it in the Movies/<moviename> folder for the specific movie. I still want the scraper to do its work, referring to TMDB, I just want to add sets that are detected by Kodi on each device.

So far I tried creating an NFO with the TMDB link followed by only the XML tags listed in the aforementioned wiki, with a common title and common description for the set, then placing each movie.nfo file in its respective movie folder. This did nothing.

I am not looking to use Kodi's interface to manually create sets because, again, I want each device to use these sets (just as they do for sets identified in TMDB, e.g. for Star Wars).

I've tried looking through the forums, and found some things that looked like they were related (e.g. this thread: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...+movie+set) but which ultimately provided no answers.

How can I go about creating a custom movie set/collection that each device running Kodi will recognize?

But there is a link to the NFO files page that will tell you exactly all that. There are also sample nfo files that will show how each tag is used in the nfo file.

This sounds like you want a Combination NFO file... https://kodi.wiki/view/NFO_files/Combination
See if that works the way you want.

Long story short: I got it working now. I did look at the NFO files page before I posted and I didn't get what I was looking for there, but that page about Combination NFO files gave me what I needed.

Oddly, I was using nearly the identical format that wiki page lays out, except I put the hyperlink at the beginning rather than at the end. I think another part of the problem is I may not have been refreshing the movies properly. At any rate, it's working now, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
