the libreelec team has tailored the operating system around kodi and video playback so, in my own opinion, it will always be better than any desktop OS which has not been tailored for use with kodi
with libreElec on the N100 ...

Does HDMI-CEC work with N100?
How well does Bluetooth headphone/audio work with the N100 on libreElec and does it have Bluetooth built in or you will need a Bluetooth dongle?

i had a senior moment, i thought this was my review thread so my response was for that PC https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=375492

see martin's response, this thread has nothing to do with any specific PC and those features asked about are

The N100 is a CPU, it doesn't define the CEC, Wifi or BT chip that comes with it.  For BT mine uses the Intel AX201 which only works on LE12.    Check your desired box for CEC specs etc

can you provide a link to your bought device?

does bluetooth audio / headphone/earbuds work well with your n100 device?

This is a regular htpc build, not a mini PC, using this motherboard https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/N100DC-ITX/

Since my last post, I ended up installing ubuntu 23.10 (which comes with kernel 6.5) and it's been very stable (always-on for almost 2 months, running a bunch of containers in addition to kodi). With 22.04 problems (freezes) started after a kernel update.
In kodi everything works except for playing AV1 content, trying to play an AV1 video causes an immediate crash, with or without AV1 VAAPI enabled. Maybe the ffmpeg bundled with Kodi 20.x is too old. I'm hopeful that kodi 21 + ubuntu 24.04LTS will fix this.

I use a BT USB dongle in this build to collect info from BLE sensors, it works very well, but this is different from the BT audio use case you mention below, for your use case I would use a BT "audio card" type dongle that is seen by linux as an audio card, zero compatibility problems, I used one many years ago. I don't use HDMI CEC so not sure about that.

Unfortunately the official team-kodi ppa is now unmaintained and no longer provides packages for recent versions of ubuntu. I ended up manually installing packages built for an older ubuntu release (working perfectly though)

Hi, I have a ASUS PRIME N100I-D D4 board with Intel N100 on it. I'm using ubuntu 23.10 Mantic server with kernel 6.5.0-21-generic.
I have struggled ridiculously many time with the kodi-standalone setup with GBM (and not with X11)! (With X11 I ended up with blank HDMI screen until first input key press.)

I can not collect the perfect recipe how it works for me, but I hope the following will help out others!
My sources I have mixed: 4K 30FPS VC9 and H265 decoding works with iGPU hardware acceleration. Most important things are:
  • i915 driver to have "00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-N [UHD Graphics] [8086:46d1]" in lspci output.
  • intel-media-va-driver to have  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so for "sudo vainfo" to work!
  • I am using kodi 20.2+dfsg-4 from ubuntu repository and not from PPA.
About AV1: Kodi crashes because of ffmpeg 6.0-6ubuntu1. The fix (https://github.com/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/commit/...44aaf1ace7) is part of 6.1 release. Ubuntu 24.10 noble will contain the fix (version 6.1.1) so fingers crossed. I'm not taking any chances with daily builds...

I am running a GBM setup on the exact same environment as well. It's extremely stable (last time the HTPC was restarted was 90 days ago, and it runs all kinds of home automation things besides Kodi: homeassistant, frigate, mysql, NFS file server etc), the only difficulty for me was that the kodi PPA does not work anymore.

I got kodi 20.2 running easily in the end by manually downloading the following "kinetic" packages and installing them with dpkg (on "mantic" - they all installed with no errors or warnings, and they work fine):

Code:
kodi_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_all.deb
kodi-addon-dev_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_amd64.deb
kodi-bin_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_amd64.deb
kodi-eventclients-common_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_all.deb
kodi-eventclients-dev_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_all.deb
kodi-eventclients-kodi-send_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_all.deb
kodi-ffmpeg-dev_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_amd64.deb
kodi-inputstream-adaptive_20.3.11-1~kinetic_amd64.deb
kodi-inputstream-ffmpegdirect_20.5.0-6~kinetic_amd64.deb
kodi-inputstream-rtmp_20.3.0-1~kinetic_amd64.deb
kodi-pvr-iptvsimple_20.10.1-1~kinetic_amd64.deb
kodi-tools-texturepacker_20.2+git20230630.0528-5f418d0b13-0~kinetic_amd64.deb

#installed with:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

For Kodi 21, I have been testing (and succeeded) locally building it. Local building will be the only option (it seems) because the Kinetic release of the old Kodi PPA is no longer being updated either. I hope kodi devs will revisit the approach to PPAs as it makes this unnecessarily complicated for many - Flatpaks are awesome but for custom installations that use GBM etc, they don't fit.
