EPG sometimes has gaps in some channels
#1
Hi

I use the latest Kodi Nexus nightly on my Win10 HTPC, with the latest tvheadend nightly. (However, the problem I'm going to describe was already there with 20.1 and a few months old tvheadend previously. I am unsure when it started.)

Everything with regards to to watching TV works - except for the EPG. Most of the programmes in most of the channels are listed in Kodi's EPG. But some are missing. Most channels are OK, but some are missing several hours' worth of listings. If I start to watch one of those channels, the current programme gets shown in the EPG, but not additional ones.

If I reset the PVR client, the complete EPG is loaded, but after a day or two, the gaps start to re-appear!

In the tvheadend web interface, all the EPG info is there. In the Kodi EPG on my Android tablet, the info is also complete. So I think something is wrong on my Windows Kodi, and probably not the tvheadend back-end.

This is what I see on my Windows machine (this is incomplete): https://imgur.com/a/AD3tTVi
But it's this on my Android tablet (this is good): https://imgur.com/gJNrauc
(This is just an example, there are a few more channels with the problem.)

I've made a debug log with PVR and EPG sections enabled: https://pastebin.com/hYWQxsv4

I would like the EPG to be complete with the info that is available in tvheadend of course. Smile

Personally, I don't see in the log what could be wrong. Does anyone know?
Is it a bug, or have I done something wrong on this end?

Thanks for looking Smile

Make sure your EPG grabbers are correctly prioritised. What is the source of the channels you are tuned to.

Thanks for thinking with me. The source is DVB-S2 (satellite).

However, it's just in my main Kodi that the EPG is incomplete.

In the tvheadend web interface, the EPG is filled as it should be, as is the EPG on my Kodi tablet. It's just in my Windows Kodi that the EPG has these gaps.

I see exact same issue with 20.2 on coreelec. EPG on tvheadend server is fine, it's only an issue on kodi. Restarting the tvheadend add on instantly fixes the problem.

Yes, that seems to help! Restarting the add on is a nice workaround.

If only there was a way to do this at every Kodi startup?

The best thing obviously would be to somehow solve the bug, but I'm not skilled enough for that.

edit: I've made a bug report on github: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/issues/23706

Just clear channels and guide in General and Guide in Kodi and the latest channels and epg will be imported.

Thanks, that does work at first, but after a while (say a day or two), the gaps start to re-appear. :\

So that's a workaround, but not a solution. Unless there's a way to do this at boot or something?

Just set up a Cron job in TVH to do a full scan every 24 hours off peak and have Kodi run a script to empty the epg data base and import the updated scan. I’ve no idea if your boxes are running 24/7 but if not have them do the same for both on startup. I’ve never used Kodi in Windows but it sounds like a comms problem between Kodi Windows and TVH. Could you supply a little more detail on your TVH setup.
