Good Day everyone!
i have some trouble with ripping music CDs to an SMB Path with Kodi. Tested with 3 different Windows Clients - all the same Problem.

Windows 11 22h2
Kodi 20.2

everytime i try to rip an music CD direkt to SMB Path kodi craches (instant kill) without an crashlog.
I tried different formats like mp3, flac and AAC, different pathes - everytime the same problem.

Ripping to a local path works fine.

Kodi ist just starting the rip - it creates the folders for the cd but than the crash.

Kodi's CD ripping feature was deprecated around v16, unfortunately no-one ever got around to removing the code. So, if you have discovered a bug, it won't be fixed.

There are much, much better methods to rip CD's.

Personally, I use the following. Other members will most likely give their personal methods also.

1. Foobar 2000 to rip the CD... https://www.foobar2000.org/
2. MusicBrainz Picard to tag the files... https://picard.musicbrainz.org/

Many members also use EAC for ripping instead of Foobar2000 ... https://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

Okay, that's an reply i did not expacted. sad to hear this but understand.
yeah i use freerip since nearly 20 years so that's the way to do. With Kodi it was simply 'couse my HTPC is the only PC with an CD drive.

Since you are running Windows you can always just use Windows Media Player to RIP CDs.  It's what I have used for over 10K tracks.  It allows selecting a destination path which I use to rip CDs to my Mezzmo server which is a drive share from another computer.  You can select the output format and quality.  It doesn't have as much metadata as some others but, as mentioned, there are robust metadata tagging tools available.

yeah, i know. i can use every other tool. but non of them with a normal IR remote within kodi with alle the nice features it had. So my wife wouldn't do this...

Ahh.  That make sense.  My solutions all have to pass the family test

Couldn't you write a plugin to spawn a ripping program process then create listitems of the resulting tracks?

yepp, that's the only way to do this. Or try to fix the issue with the buildin kodi feature - would be the better way in my opinion. The build-in kod filemanager is working fine with SMB pathes, the ripping to local path is also working fine.
