I might just get one of these, eats 1080p videos for breakfast apparently.

Downsides: no internal hdd, no ethernet conn. no disc drive. No library functions as such Sad Limited to 2x usb external hard drives. (possible to extend by using hub though?) -unknown at this point. -new product.

But for the low price.. very nice looking, compact, quiet, energy efficient unit. Nice remote, handles 1080p easy. Supports ogg,mp3,flac for music. JPG and bmp for pics. Menu/UI is basic but clean and easy on the eye.

OK, i've gone and done it. Got myself the Shuttle case/Board/Fan in one hit:-

and the CPU arrived yetserday. A Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Dual-Core Processor, 3.16 GHz, which should handle HD with ease.

I'd never actually built a PC from scratch so asked a pro about inserting the chip onto the board and he talked me through it, however it did not exactly click into the slot as he described as the chip did not have any prongs on the underside, just what looked like little copper circles. Anyway he fell into place fine enough and locked down securely when I moved the arm down. Dabbed and spread some of the heatsink compound that came with the Shuttle and replaced the Shuttle Fan, which is different from how the Intel CPU instructions. The fan on the case has three tubes that lead to a metal plate that sits directly in the chip, which makes the fan that came with the Intel chip redundant. Since I have yet to get a SATA drive and the DDR2 Dimms i've not tested it but wondered if anyone here had any experience with this cooling design ?
I hope to have the XBMC PC up and running by the end of this coming W/E.

How's that interface for the WD device?
