XBMC crashes from start
#1
Hello,

I'm new to the forum and as a user of XMBC. I downed it and installed it on a Windows Vista 32-bit pc with directx 9.0 installed. XMBC doesn't even open on my system. It crashes right away. Can anyone explain to me what I'm doing wrong.

Is a 64 vista copy mandatory??

Hi there and welcome to the forums.

A debug log will tell you - check your app data folder. See my sig for details.

It's almost certainly due to crappy opengl drivers - make sure you have the latest GL drivers for your card, and you're not doing something silly like running over remote desktop.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Just to elaborate, you should use the drivers from your GFX mfr, not from Windows or windows update.

ok, so I looked it up and searched foir opengl drivers for my card but didn't find any. I have a NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with currently the Windows Vista found driver installed. Can you give me some help on how to find the right driver for my card??

Regards,

Wooshie

edit:
if that doesn't work for vista, maybe try drivers from here?

Looks like you're still using the Vista found driver. Checking NVidia's site, it looks like there is no vendor developed driver for GeForce4 cards on Vista, so if you can't find a compatible driver at the second link given above or on Google, then you'll likely have to upgrade your video card.

i think, the drivers are still wrong, gives a attentionmark and I have no properties, so the 32bpp setting is nowhere to be found

I'm having the same problem except there isn't even a log created.

I use XP Pro SP3 and have a Radeon 9600 running the 8.10 drivers (latest) connected to a TV via s-video. Set to 800x600x32.

Same problem for me, when I start xbmc it just instantly crashes.
