I'm also having an issue related to MKV and AVI files. Here's the problem: First I "add source" for my movie content. Then I switch to library mode. Then the only movies I see are the ones where the movie files are in VOB format, no MKV or AVI movies are listed.

I can get the missing movie to appear in library mode if I (1) go back to file mode (2) rt-click on the movie folder containing the mkv or avi file (3) select "scan for new content".

I've tried un-installing and re-installing XBMC. I've used both the MySQL backend and the SQL-Lite backend. Same results every time. I'm using release 28256.

You might do a search for stray .nfo files. If the nfo file isn't accurate or in the right format, it confuses XBMC. Just open the folder with your movies do a search for *.nfo, and delete (unless, if course, you specifically and intentionally created nfo files using something like EMM).
