Plugin Installation Help
#1
Hello all I am trying to get xbmc running on ubuntu 8.10 and I am having some issues figuring out how to install plugins.

Most of the directions I am finding indicate that they are installed from the xbmc gui itself but I dont have the plugins options on the "Add source" dialog. I have tried putting downloaded plugins into the correct directory and I still dont have the option on the "Add source" dialog.

I realize this is probably a pretty noobish question but I have been looking everywhere and I can't seem to find a good description of how to get the plugins installed.

Thank you in advance.

If you have any plugins in the correct directory, I believe there is supposed to show up a listing for the plugins for that section. "Video plugins" for video, "Music plugins" for music, etc.. double check the manual to make sure you are putting the plugin in the correct folder. I'm not sure where they go on linux.

Yes I have the plugins in the correct folders.

The plugin options aren't showing up in the "add source" dialog no matter what I do.

This is what I mean. When I go to the main videos list. The "Video plugins" folder automatically shows up there if I have plugins in the correct folder. Maybe some setting turns that behavior off.. someone else will have to comment. Video RSS is a source I added manually via the Add source dialog. I didn't have to do anything to get the video plugins folder to show up except put them in the right folder.

And what folders are those?
Exact path please.

you need to install in your home directory. http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=HOW-TO_insta...irectories

Where did you get a hulu plugin? They should all be deleted by now, as they don't work...

Why can't I get into the .xbmc folder from the ubuntu gui? I can see it in the terminal.

you have to enable show hidden files in some setting somewhere. that's best left to google. ctrl+h is the shortcut key I think. or you could manually type it in nautilus's browser bar.

Thank you very much rwparris I was looking in the wrong folder. I have the plugins showing up in xbmc now. Now I just have to get some to work.

Do you have any suggestions for some good simple plugins that I could test to make sure I have this figured out?

the onion, apple movie trailers light, mtvn, ted talks, nbc universal.

I think the vast majority of the ones you'll install from svn repo installer will work.

Yeah, for some reason I can't get the SVN Repo installer to work. I got the xbmc favorites installer to work though.

Any tips for getting the SVN Repo to work?
