Norton commander clone for console ?
#1
Hi,
how can I install a Norton Commander clone software
for a shell console?

I really hate to type linux commands at the prompt
to go to directories and copy files.

Why is no Norton Commander clone software or anything
simular integrated into such a release ?

Is there any way I can integrate this into
a Live version system I installed to the Harddisk ?

Yeasterday I succeeded to install the 9.04 Version
onto another PC with Intel 915 graphics card, P4 3 Ghz
and 1 GB Ram.
Works quite well, only the plugins did not work.

I just see, that a fix was posted,
but I would prefer to do this all and edit files
in a Norton Commander clone software.

So how can this be done ?

Can I just install something with apt-get or how it it
called, when I am in a console shell ?

What is a good or the best Norton Commander clone
software for this installation ?

Many thanks.

Regards, Stefan.

It's called "midnight commander" on linux, though I'm not sure if it's included by default in the live distro. The command is "mc".

sudo apt-get mc

does not work !

Any other method to get it installed in the live version onto disk ?

I am really getting mad by making mistakes, cause I have a German
keyboad and all keys are mapped differently, so I always make
errors then typing Linux commands...

I really need the Midnight Commander...

Why is this not installed in the LiveVersion as a default tool ?

Who really wants to type commands, when with
a few function key strokes files can be moved very
easily Huh??

I am really getting mad at these programmers and don´t understand why they keep these
broken installation versions and don´t release fixed versions ...

Where is Version 9.05 ?

Quote:sudo apt-get mc

When I type the upper command I only get:

"Invalid operation mc"

What am I doing wrong ?

How do I get Midnight Commander installed ?

Great many thanks, that worked !

Now I can finally use my old lover Commander !
Wink Many thanks again..

P.S. Can I now just copy from an USB thumb drive stick
a few plugins via the MC into the
/plugins/video directory ?

It seems the Aptitude and SVN Repo Installer under the main Live surface
do not yet work...
