BBC has not stated that they wont allow a a Niro API key for Kodi/XBMC.
I think we can agree that the API looks pretty achievable, so lets wait and see what happens when they open up the API key registration.
Whilst it's pretty lame to drop the old method with no warning when we can't even get keys to the API, you can't really expect the beeb to not make advancements to "defend" their content from copyright infringement. Offering an API for accessing their content is more than many of their counterparts do...
