[OLD] HOW-TO watch Live TV in XBMC for Linux with Tvheadend, the easy way!
Hi Gujs !

Thanks once again for the great contribution.

I tried your latest ppa version with improved recording scheduling.
It works pretty well now. I only experienced two minor issues which might be not only tvheadend related more possibly xbmc related:

- When i set a timer or delete in timeline view with the context menu, it works perfectly, the mark on the program immediately shows up and disappears, but when i make it with pressing ok on the program to have a detailed view and press schedule here the mark on the program does not get showed. Only refreshing the view helps calling up the scheduled mark. Deleting schedule from this view even makes a stranger thing. It gives a warning: "Timer already set for this event" and of course the timer doesn't get deleted.

Also when i delete a schedule from the context menu which is currently being recorded it gets marked as aborted in tvheadend but the recording sign stays on in xbmc. When repeat the delete step, it gets removed from tvheadend pvr listing and the record sign disappears also in xbmc,

One unrelated question:

I realized that with my satelite provider all the program's genre is unknnown, other but with other providers they show up right. How can i demux genre description from a ts file to see whats there ? Also i am interested in demuxing epg info.

THX, Alan

Hi Gujs,

thanks for the updated package. I have a problem with AC3 sound. When watching live tv and chosing AC3 audio track, I hear sound, but almost no voices. When watching recorded files, it works well with AC3.

The info overlay shows ac3 0.0 as audio format.
infabo Wrote:is timeshift planned for the next xbmc final release?

Must this feature be implemented by each pvr client?
In my opinion this feature could be implemented generically by the pvr framework.

Another question: is it planned to save the timeshift temporary data on the client or on the server?
I have the same issue with AC3 on TV channels. I hear faint sounds but no voices. AC3 sound works perfectly with TV channels (using TVheadend) on the non-pvr branch.
I tried to upgrade my Ubuntu 9.04 at the weekend so I could install the pvr-testing branch, but ended up doing a clean install of 10.04. I had problems getting xbmc to work and found that the special: path was pointing to /usr/lib/xbmc but most components were in /usr/share/xbmc
I think I got everything setup now with symbolic links, but what did I do wrong in the installation?

The main issue however is that I can't get the HTS PVR client to work. I've got it working on another system with 10.04 & Gregor's package and it works as a video source htsp:... The config looks good, could it still have something to do with the special: path?

Thanks
John
I found some other missing symbolic links - the PVR client works fine now. I also found a possible solution for the special: path here http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/7953. Sorry, I was probably in the wrong thread.....
Hi Pinthenet, how do you make HTS PVR client works? I have the same problem.
I think the best solution would be the one in the link http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/7953 - setting XBMC_HOME, if it works.
I got things working by renaming /usr/lib/xbmc/addons then creating a symbolic link with
Code:
sudo ln -s /usr/share/xbmc/addons /usr/lib/xbmc/addons
Without that xbmc wouldn't even start as it couldn't find the confluence skin. Finally I found that within /usr/share/xbmc/addons there were some libraries that were symbolic links to files in subdirectories of the original /usr/lib/xbmc/addons, which were now broken. I fixed each of those to link via the renamed folder and PVR client worked!

It's by no means a nice solution (but at least I could watch Spain-Honduras), so I hope the XBMC_HOME trick works - I'll try it this evening

PS - I setup this box (Asrock ION 330) with these instructions HOW-TO install XBMC for Linux on Ubuntu with a minimal installation, an unofficial Step-by-Step Guide
My other installation, which didn't have the path issue, is a standard Ubuntu 10.04 installation with Gnome and XBMC is started from the Applications menu
I've found the default install path of PVR-Testing2 was "/usr/local/", and the original XBMC Live 9.11 Repack1 was "/usr". So I have to do something like this on a fresh 9.11 R1 installation:
Code:
mv /usr/local/bin/xbmc/*.* /usr/bin/
mv /usr/local/lib/xbmc/*.* /usr/lib/
cp /usr/local/share/xbmc /usr/local/lib/
then reboot, it works. But no HTS addons, could you tell me what i've missing?

Thanks.
John
Hmm, my xbmc is in /usr/bin

I assume you've activated TV in System/TV and enabled and configured the TVHeadend addon in System/Add-ons/Installed Add-ons, also check the settings.xml in .xbmc/userdata/addons/pvr.hts - I had some problems with the IP

I could setup hts but got errors (no PVR client) trying to start Live TV - I found the missing symbolic links in the /usr/share/xbmc/addons/org* folders and the visualisation* & screensaver* folders. You have to use ls -l then you should see that the links are broken /red). There are also errors in the xbmc.log when the links are broken

John
i have a server which runs tvheadend and a client machine with xbmc.
tvheadend work very well!

but...

whenever i suspend to ram (s3) my xbmc (linux) and wake up after 10 minutes, xbmc does start, but i have no sound en choppy/no image.

is there anyone who has xbmc+tvheadend+working suspendHuh
@Gujs
can you please apply this patch located on the bottom of this trac-ticket to your binaries? pleaseeeeee Nod

Seems my problem starts here, but XBMC log didn't provide any related info about that.

in Settings->Add-ons->installed Add-ons->PVR clients. Only shows VDR VNSI Client

Thanks
sorry, gururu, I had the HTS addon from the start. you are using one of the pvr-testing packages aren't you. I'm using this one
Hi GuJs,

I have the following crash after running fine for awhile ..

Quote:xbmc.bin: libavutil/mathematics.c:79: av_rescale_rnd: Assertion `c > 0' failed.

This happened just opening up a video directory .. I cannot play recordings now.

It seems to be the info in that directory though, as I can open up another directory and play the contents fine ... there is nothing strange in the faulty directory though.

Just tried the trunk svn and that plays that directory fine ..

The build is: xbmc-9.11+svn30781.lucid5

Thanks.
