I would be realy neat with a XML-RPC connection to XBMC.

Perhaps just start/paus/stop etc Initaly but in the long term most features enabled remote.
Such as Navigate the library/files, add edit, scrape, movie info etc etc etc.

The possibilities är endless.

these features are available through the http api and the event server api as well as basic player control through dbus and upnp. adding another interface seems pointless

Well, sounds abit scattered. XML-RPC is a good working standard and a nice way to gather all functions in one place.
