i am following this writeup for installing xbmc in ubuntu (mine is kubuntu to be exact).

i am getting stuck at the "Adding PPA Keys" section. for some reason when i save the PGP key under my home directory as xbmc-ppa.key, and then go under software sources' "Authentication Tab" to add it, i cant see the file there. its definitely physically there because i checked with the file manager and the terminal too.

i used kate as the editor to save the file and it saved it as encoded UTF-8, does that matter?

any help will be appreciated.

I don't know, but try naming it something else?

You can also run this in terminal
sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 318C7509 91E7EE5E 64234534
(addons, live PPA, SVN PPA)

i gave up on this and used this method, http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=XBMCbuntu

its booting up to xbmc main screen successfully.
