I hope this is the appropriate place for this, but I was wondering if it's possible to link to a plugin or script directly from the home screen, outside of any 'scripts' or 'programs' folder?

You can do that by editing the skin itself. There are xbmc builtin functions that you can call from a button setup in a skin. You might want to search the forums for "RunScript" to look for some examples.

Awesome, I'll read into that.
By the way, I have a feeling this is a bit of a long shot, but if ever a netflix plugin came out, would it be remotely possible to view your own movies and your netflix instant queue in the same library? Of course, this is only hypothetical atm, but a netflix plugin does seem to be in development.
