Windows Home Server / Remote Control
#1
Hi,

i am using Windows Home Server for my NAS. Now i decide to expand the NAS to a HTPC also.

Now i am searching a adequate remote control which works under Windows Home Server (similar to Windows Home Server 2003). I dont know if a certified MCE works very well with WHS.

I have found this remote control from Hama, whis is very low priced.

I have also seen some cases with IMON remote controls, are they applicable with XBMC? Eek

Lirc for Windows?

OK, since I run the linkedin group for WHS, I'll answer. Not a very well explored area for that OS, there is some functionality with X10,, and a commercial add-on, Ipshomecontrol comes close, but your best approach may come from this link:

Seems that Windows Home Server is not a good solution für a HTPC. For a Streaming-, File- and Backupserver very good.

But i like the Backup Functions from WHS.

You might want to look at wegotserved under WMP11, that tutorial you referenced is 2003 specific, and WHS isn't 2003. Maybe Twonky media server can help. You will need something specific to the console, might want to more closely review WHS. WHS does have problems with streaming.

@Background: almost all of the cheap MCE remotes will work with XBMC using my custom build at http://www.ratsauce.plus.com/xbmc.htm. The changes in this custom build will be in the next version of XBMC. See the readme file for how to configure XBMC to work with your remote.

The official MS remote doesn't work on Server 2003 or 2008, so I'd guess it doesn't work on Home Server. You might be able to get the drivers for XP to work. I have the drivers if you want to try. In my view the official MS remote is by far the best of the MCE remotes as it's so configurable. I use one (with WinXP) on my media centre PC.
