what ppa's? the script uses the official xbmc ppa's for now, however because of the major disruption to official ppas, I started copying the contents of them to my own ppa to be used in future versions of script.
read about it here
http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=586...tcount=997
this ppa can be added manually then run the current version 1.0970 of script.
as for being afraid of hosing your setup, well why not just backup your install with acronis true image or something?

actually
its
1.
install mini iso (Minimal Karmic 32/64bit)
2. sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
3. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-iquik/xbmc-svn
4. sudo wget
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4325533/XCI/Beta/xci.sh
5. sudo chmod +x xci.sh; sudo ./xci.sh
notice the script download link
note This this way of installing adding the svn ppa before running script should only be temporary until there's a stable xbmc on ppa otherwise you always end up with svn xbmc.
it should work...
NOTE:THIS METHOD IS NOT NEEDED ANYMORE since XBMC stable PPA exists. Using the above may result in a not quite 100% install where something may not work as prescribed.

xbmc@xbmc:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-iquik/xbmc-svn
sudo: add-apt-repository: command not found
works after
sudo apt-get install python-software-properties

yes apt-get install python-software-properties is required for add-apt-repository no big deal since if you dont have it it will tell you to install it.
I updated script version to 1.0972 which includes the svn ppa however to get a xbmc install you have to still run 9.11 install first then install xbmc svn ppa via script. This is because theres no stable 9.11 ppa yet.
