Help required with mpc-hc as default player.
#1
Hi,

i just been using XBMC, and its a great piece of kit!! Kudos to all in dev and have had a hand in this!

ive relegated my old pc:
asus p5p800
3.4HT cpu (dynamic OC to 3.7 - stable)
2 gb ram
4650 AGP ati radeon with hdmi
1.5TB hdd

connected to a Panasonic tc-p54s1 plasma tv.

i just got the card to turn the pc into a htpc. as it turns out, after installing xbmc, i cant play 1080p files cleanly. its stutters. xbmc reports almost 80%+ cpu use. clearly, my older rig cant handle it.. hence the new card to offload the cpu.

i ve been trying to get mpc-hc as the default player and its been not easy.. for me at least. (im a newbie!)

ive attached the advancesettings.xml, playercorefactory and the important bit from the log.

ive looked and looked, i cant seem to find the cause of : "ERROR: Error loading special://profile/playercorefactory.xml, Line 4 (Error reading Attributes.)"

if its something blindly obvious, i apologize, but i simply cant see it.

ive tested with mpc-hc and 1080p plays back just fine with cpu at about 20%

looking forward to some help with this.

all replies are very much appreciated.

regards,

1. you dont need anything in advanced settings.
2. playercorefactory.xml is all you need.
3. you need rules section with prepend otherwise internal players will be used.
4. check this post from the external players thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=499...tcount=997

* a note to that post. The custom playercorefactory should be in your userdata folder, just check to make sure its in the right folder if you installed portable or regular. Also change the path to the exe as that was a sample for someone else.

path to mpc-hc is correct.

when i start - run "C:\Program Files\MPC HomeCinema\mpc-hc.exe", mpc-hc launches just fine.

Sad

what gives?

If you're only using mpc-hc for dxva why not tryout the native XBMC players that are available in the newer SVNs?

DVDPlayer: http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69306

DSPlayer: http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=61355

thanks for the reply my2sense.
will tryout dsplayer... hope it works seamlessly. XBMC is simply superb.cant wait to get it chugging along happily. Smile

dsplayers settings looks daunting, will give the wiki a read and give it a whirl.

asmd, you may want to try out the dvdplayer first since I found it a little bit easier to configure than dsplayer. The newest version now supports dxva.

Nightly builds are available here: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/

Don't forget to turn on dxva under settings/video/playback/render method. I think it defaults to auto but it didn't work for me until I set it manually to dxva.

tried the latest nightly build.. its a no go.
i enables dxva, and even then its not using dxva to render the file.

am not sure where to start looking.

(mpc-hc plays it back with dxva ok, so its definately a software issue)

will try my luck with dsplayer next.

tried xbmc with dsplayer, selected h264 and vc1 in ffshow dxva settings and no cigar... the same file that plays with dxva in mpc-hc doesnt in dsplayer.

am sure its a setting issue...

any help would be much appreciated.

Can you post your complete playercorefactory.xml here? Will take a look.

Follow up:

after many many uninstalls and reinstalls, its 1.02AM, and SUCCESS!

got the dsplayer to work with dxva. 1080p running well with cpu @ about 20%

im sure there much more to come.

thanks again guys for the help and feedback.

(oddly enough i still couldnt get mpc-hc as an external player to work. neither could i get dvdplayer to work.)

will hang around to watch for new build and features.

This thing is awesome. I tip my hat to you dev chaps!

@abba77 - appreciate the help. i unfortunately dont have a copy of the .xml as with all the uninstalling and reinstalling, they got all replaced/deleted. the last settings xml im using is for dsplayer integration.

regards,
asmd.
