Bitstreaming HD audio using Radeon 5450?
#1
I'm thinking of upgrading my HTPC to use a Radeon 5450 card. On Windows, this would allow me to bitstream HD audio over HDMI. Anyone know if this would be supported in XBMC? What about on Linux? (With VDPAU?)

I too, would love some insight on this prospect. I recently came into possession some movies with audio in both DTS-MA and DD-TrueHD formats. Playing DTS-MA audio, I believe just causes XBMC to decode the DTS core and not the full audio track (don't ask me how that works, apparently DTS-MA is backwards compatible?). The codec info screen showed dts or something like that if I remember correctly. DD-TrueHD used an entirely different codec than normal DD and no sound was heard from receiver. Granted, I expected no sound because my HD3200 ATI chip wont bit-stream DD-TrueHD.

I guess it really comes down what is allowable by ffmpeg and what features allowed by ffmpeg are accessible by XMBC.
