Choppy Video on DVD Rips
#1
I recently upgraded to SVN 28256 to fix an issue with 720p files playing at 1080p, and it seemed to help a great deal. However, my wife went to watch a standard DVD rip (MKV using Handbrake) and the movie is almost unwatchable.... audio plays smooth but video gets periodically choppy, almost moving in slow motion, but there are no dropped frames on the OSD.

In the areas where the video plays poorly, I get something along these lines:

DEBUG: CPullupCorrection: detected pattern of length 24: 50000.00 33000.00 50000.00 33000.00 51000.00 33000.00 50000.00 33000.00 50000.00 34000.00 50000.00 33000.00 50000.00 34000.00 50000.00 33000.00 50000.00 33000.00 50000.00 34000.00 50000.00 33000.00 50000.00 34000.00

I figured that it was possible that I created a bad mkv, so I tested with a known working file.... one that I know I have watched a few times. Not only did I get the CPullupCorrection error, I also received this beauty:

ERROR: ffmpeg[B24D6B70]: [h264_vdpau] number of reference frames exceeds max (probably corrupt input), discarding one

These are progressive DVD rips at 23.976 fps, and again I KNOW the 2nd file played without problems in the past.

Here is the xbmc.log: http://pastebin.com/uw1GacUB

Any Ideas?

What revision were you at before?

I am not quite sure what I was at before the latest upgrade... which was about a month ago.... and I can't check the previous posts I had because of the lightning strike.

I have not had any trouble with native 1080p/Blu-ray rips since the upgrade... this is the first time trying a standard DVD rip. I was thinking that it may have something to do with the way it is upconverting.

Specs:
Zotac ION 230
512 Mb Video (driver 195.36.03)
2Gb RAM
XBMC-Live on 4Gb USB

**EDIT** Just found an old log file I had copied... I was around SVN 28177 when I upgraded.

The log indicates those files have a wrong frameduration set, also it looks like the timestamps are wrongly converted from soft telecine NTSC dvd.

Could:

1- Anything in the progress of XBMC have caused these files to no longer be played properly in the player?

2- The fact that they are MKV's be a problem?

3- The video drivers be causing an issue?

As I said... I tested known working movies and they were now glitchy... and these videos work fine in Myth and on a Patriot Box Office.

Let me edit # 1

1- Anything in the progress of XBMC have caused these files to no longer be played AS THEY WERE in the player?

Autosync was disabled in r27587, that's all I can think of.

So my issue appears to not be XBMC related... sorry for the trouble. The trouble was when XBMC switched to 1920x1080@24.... I reran JumJum's script and the only valid mode I received was 1920x1080@60.... rebooted and ran script again and everything is playing OK (for now Rofl). I think the receiver for my soundbar is causing the issue.

I'm using handbrake to create the MKV's. Is there another Linux program that you suggest? Should I still be using the MKV container?
