I've searched and searched and have quite literally reinstalled xbmc 8 times trying different guides. I officially give up and ask for help .
I'm using XBMC Live 9.11 installed to my hard drive.
I have an a8n sli-deluxe with onboard sound and a audigy 2 zs. The onboard sound (analog 5.1) will be used to squeezebox and the audigy (digital 5.1) goes to my a/v receiver from xbmc. The receiver is capable of ac3/dts and if I disable the onboard sound and use plughw to specify the audigy, everything works.
However, disabling my onboard sound is not an option since the audigy goes crazy if I use both the analog and digital for two separate things at the same time. So, to use both xbmc and squeezebox at the same time, I need two audio devices.
Currently I have a nice fresh install but I added the following three lines to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf to force the order of the cards.
options snd_emu10k1 index=0
options snd_mpu401 index=1
options snd_intel8x0 index=2
Current config:
Audio output: digital
ac3: y
dts: y
Audio output device: default
passthrough: iec958
downmix: n
debug logging: true
reboot
Tests:
x264 dolby digital - 5.1 passed correctly
xvid dolby digital - 5.1 passed correctly
xvid mp3 - no sound, receiver still is seeing 5.1 (incorrect) but no actual audio
x264 dts - 5.1 passed correctly
xvid ac3 - stereo passed correctly
x264 ac3 - 5.1 passed correctly
xvid mp3 - no sound, but receiver is seeing stereo (correct)
vc1 wmapro - no sound, receiver sees stereo (incorrect)
flac stereo - no sound
mp3 stereo - no sound
no navigation sounds
Now, what is really odd. I go disable debugging and try to replay a x264 dts sample and I get failure to initialize audio device.... ?!
Any help resolving these oddities? Obviously I don't want to have debugging on at all times while trying to use xbmc and I do want to be able to play music at times. I can attach any debug logs as well, but one for each sample seemed a bit excessive.
Thanks!!!
