Consistent freezing with multiple media formats
#1
Hardware: Revo 1600 with 1GB ram upgrade
Nvidia Driver: 256.29
OS: Ubuntu 9.10, 2.6.31-20-generic i686
XBMC: Started out with XBMCFreak v14 and updated to the latest SVN rev as of 6/14/2010 - PRE-10.5 r28256
Media Server OS: Windows 7

Symptom: While streaming any media the media will freeze at random intravles. If the media is a movie the video will freeze but the audio will continue playing for 5-30 seconds. This is a non-destructive freeze in that I am able to move my mouse and click the stop button. Most of the time I am able to recover and play the movie from where it left off only to again freeze.

For MP3's I attempted to use the default player and dvdplayer both with same results.

Pastebin log files of various media formats freezing:

MP3 Crash - http://pastebin.com/6vkUkzt3

AVI Crash - http://pastebin.com/X0SqS6f5
MKV Crash - http://pastebin.com/n7tb7sf9
MP4 Crash - http://pastebin.com/VxRii2tc
ISO Crash - http://pastebin.com/bnGVZBRM
DVD Crash - http://pastebin.com/DHwDkVA0

I hope this is enough information for someone to assist me in troubleshooting this issue. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

If I am not receiving any replies because I lack information or doing something wrong can someone at least tell me what?

You've got all the info needed, you'll just probably have to wait until one of the devs has a chance to check out your logs. I noticed that you're using SMB to connect to your media server, have you tried copying one of the files directly on to your Revo and playing from there? Just to rule out any network issues. I do see that you have a ton of the Discontinuity errors in all the logs...it seems like a lot of people that are having audio/video issues and running svn versions get those errors. I'm running an svn from yesterday and don't have any issues, so they may mean nothing.

I think you are wrong about "latest svn". r28256 is like months old. It was one of the last "known to be" stable builds before the addon merge.
I was running that revision, too for a while and didn't have any problems with my sources.
Anyway, lates svn is something like r30xxx

Thanks for your reply. I've copied over Gladiator and running that now. I am also ftp'ing a ton of other movies just to see how long I can keep a transfer open.

Man it was a bitch and a half just getting it to update from the 9.11 to pre-10.5. I tried so many ways and the version number would not change then finally I guess I found a way that worked because it actually updated. So I figured that r285256 was the latest of that day.

I never said there was a crash. The video and audio will freeze but, usually, allow me to hit stop then play again.

Here is a new log. This log was generated while my slideshow screen saver was playing. All of the images are located on the Revo's hard drive. While the screen saver was playing the screen froze. Mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. I am still able to SSH and FTP into the machine while the screen is frozen.

I finally figured out the issue. The 1gb ram upgrade was bad Sad took it out and I have been running flawlessly.
