[MAC] VDADecoder performance over HDMI on new Mac Mini?
This is never going to be fixed until davilla has hands on time with a 2010 Mac Mini. We can keep posting with false hope, but it isn't going to happen.

Again, I'm in for shipping fees or however I can help. Anybody else?

I've got one sitting here that is used exclusively for XBMC. I can open an ssh, remote desktop, or VNC port on the firewall as needed. If davilla is reading this, my contact info is in my profile, I'll be GLAD to volunteer the use of my Mini.
One should be flying it way to me as I type.

Nice! Will this help at all with your development of CoreAudio sinks for AudioEngine? Or is your MacBook enough for that?
Tried with both the current release and nightly release of XBMC. Current releases of Plex and Boxee.

On my MacMini with 10.6.6 I am finding that XBMC with VDADecoder is using 160% CPU (looks like VDADecoder isn't being used) for BluRay mkv.

Strange thing is that VDADecoder is now working with both Plex (didn't with 10.6.5) and Boxee (it wouldn't even use VDADecoder with 10.6.5). Now with 10.6.6 they are both using VDADecoder with a massive decrease in CPU usage (35-50% instead of 160+%)

But with the Alice clip:
Boxee trips up (doen't show much apart from multiple copies of the mouse pointer appear and jump around all over the place with audio in the background)
XBMC plays is at around 11fps at 98% cpu
Plex plays it correctly at 24fps with about 88% cpu usage.
BluRay mkv describes a container, not a video format. VDA will only accelerate h264 and not mpeg2 or vc1 which are the other two video formats that can be found on a bluray disk. Please get specific when describing what works, what does not less even more confusion develops.

Sorry about that, was coming back to add the mediainfo log when my net connection went down.

Strange, I just tested again and XBMC now seems to be working now with VDADecoder (40% cpu). I have not changed any settings since the earlier test and not rebooted etc. I will do some more tests to find out if some else is conflicting.

Alice clip still messed up. It's the Alice clip mentioned in this thread, the mediainfo details:

I will get a copy of the xbmc log when i get a chance.
^^^^

It's always been this way since post 10.6.3.

Post 10.6.3:
Uncompressed Avatar bluray works.
Uncompressed Alice bluray does not work.
Uncompressed Rambo bluray does not work.
And others do not work.

10.6.3 and before:
VDA works fine on everything.
I have a new Mac Mini 2010 model and unfortunatelly is upgraded to 10.6.5. Same problem with Vda. Return back to 10.6.3 is possible, but I ´ll wait Davilla ´s research and solution.

Second think: after Dharma installation (MacMini was 10.6.4) I lost DTs and DD passtrough over HDMI. Simply not working. Only Multichannel PCM working (unchecked dts and dd passtrough) on HDMI.

I think this problem is also related to the new Mac Mini model and Sl after 10.6.3.

Have anybody same problem with audio? Is it working on 10.6.3?

P.S.: already trying old 9.11 on sl 10.6.5 and dts and dd passtrough over hdmi working without problem !!! Strange?

Thx for any help
Stanik
stanik, no problems here on 10.6.3 and DTS through HDMI on a Denon receiver.
I have downgraded mij late 2009 Mac Mini to 10.6.3. and haven't had any success. Still problems with high bitrate scenes. The tutorial by Idioteque elsewhere on this forum for Panasonic TV's (I have a p42v20e) doesn't help unfortunately.

Same MacMini 2010?
I want be sure before downgrading (reinstall) my MM.

Have anyone working passtrough with DTS and DD on MacMini 2010 with 10.6.4 and higher?

I have a 10.6.3 partition and a 10.6.6 partition on my 2010 Mac mini. Both bitstream DD and DTS to my Denon 3806 receiver. Both also will send 7.1 PCM from Dolby Tru HD tracks as well. Dolby MA is sent as the core DTS. Mini is hooked up via HDMI.

10.6.3 will play all uncompressed Bluray perfectly with VDA decoding on. 10.6.6 has trouble and major frame drops with the movies mentioned throughout this thread like Alice and Rambo.

Just upgraded to 10.6.6 combo update and Audio passtrough still not work in Dharma - only Multichannel PCM. Strange is, when switching back to XBMC 9.11 passtrough working for DTS and DD without any problem to my Harman Kardon AVR 255. With XBMC 10.0 only Multichannel PCM :-(
I am giving up :-(.

So why not just listen to us when we tell you to stick with 10.6.3 and any version of XBMC...Besides, this isn't a thread on audio.
