How do I: Push video to my tv?
#1
What I have
Ubuntu 10.04
XBMC installed
Laptop with VGA out
VGA to Component Cable

Everything works perfectly on the laptop

however whether using ubuntu or xbmc I cannot get video to output on my tv I have tried two different tv's and two different vga to component cables.

I press the "FN+F8" and the laptop flickers and the tv starts audio but nothing other than wavy lines are visible.

Do I need to adjust something under settings?

Any ideas?

Two things come to mind here.

1) Your TV may not support SVGA resolutions over component. (That's the case with my TV)

2) You need to enable to VGA output of your laptop. Depending on your video card, it's different how to do this. For an ATI card, it's: System > Preferences > ATI Catalyst Control Center (Administrative). Select Display Manager and that's where you'd enable the vga port.
