Thanks for the suggestion but I got the same results.
I uninstalled, then reinstalled 4.4.6. I went into the addon which caused YouTubePlayer.pyc to be created. I then copied over YouTubePlayer.py and tried to play a video. That caused a new .pyc to be compiled but the play back failed.

Just to follow up and maybe help someone else...
After adding the following section to my advancedsettings.xml file, play back worked:

<disableipv6>true</disableipv6>
</network>
