#16
Thanks for your answers. I currently use mythfrontend, and I just wanted to test XBMC as frontend. I'll come back is some weeks to test again Big Grin

I need a little help. I have everything installed but I can only get as far as enabling the mythtv addon. How do you configure the add with my UN,PW, and IP.

or is the addon still broken

I'm also a bit lost. Where is the best place to find up to date info on the prv branch.

Im going to get shot for asking this but what is the best way to test the mythtv addon in windows (it its even to that point yet)

thanks for all the help

The only place where the MythTV Addon is remotely working is in my github repository.

https://github.com/dteirney/xbmc/tree/pvr

It is currently not working very well though as some API changes are needed for the MythTV Addon to be able to pass across the information XBMC expects.

Use MythTV for recording TV? Try the integrated MythTV support in XBMC Media Center. Now with commercial skip support built-in and integration with the Movie database!

Has there has been an update to the MythTv XBMC PVR Client add-on? I'm running a recent build and it appears the Myth PVR Client is still not functional (grayed-out 'configure menu').

Thanks for all your hard work.

Dushmaniac's PVR builds do not have a working mythtv addon. He's focusing on TVHeadend and won't maintain plugin's in his tree that are other people's responsibility...

Therefore, you realistically have two choices (both involve building from source):

1) Pull down Dtierney's git-hub repo (he links to it in a post above) and compile. This is, I guess, the "official" mythtv plugin branch. However: 1) Not all functions like timers and so forth work correctly. 2) There is not a great pace of development, so it lags behind Dushmaniac's official PVR repo (and by extension the Mainline XBMC repo).

2) Pull down tsp's new libcmyth plugin branch. Details here:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=894244&postcount=1

It's pretty new and maybe we don't know the staying power of the developer (although he's been great and responsive so far), but all timers and so forth are working, bugs are being ironed out (haven't found any yet in the latest build). If you're running a mythbackend (and I prefer it to TVHeadend) then you need this version.... at least until Dteirney's branch becomes more up-to-date...

Hope this helps,

Jim

Do you happen to know whether any of the pvr work (whether just the base pvr support without the mythtv specific stuff) will be merged into the mainline release for Eden? Or has PVR support been dropped for Eden entirely? If so, that would be very unfortunate as I believe it was originally scheduled for Camelot, then Eden, and now may be more than 2 years since it was originally announced, see:

http://xbmc.org/theuni/2010/02/06/coming-soon/

Note that announcement says: "Probably the most requested feature for XBMC." but the devs don't seem interested to merge into mainline XBMC.

Well, I think the hold-up is binary add-ons? The pvr stuff works pretty well as far as I can tell. There are some kinks depending on which backend you have, but if you choose the "officially" supported tvheadend and use Dushmaniac's branch then you are basically using the mainline code. I think he's keen to keep it in a state where it's as close as possible to the vanilla stuff, so he pulls it quite regularly.

He even has a ppa and does his own builds, so you can just use apt to install it like regular XBMC.... so I'm not seeing why it's a problem if it's been merged yet or not. It'll be ready when it's ready!
