[CLOSED] Advanced Launcher - Applications Launcher Addon for XBMC
I have a noob question, I have a Microsoft sidewinder gamepad, how would I go about setting it up for NES, Genesis? Is there instructions on how to do it...from what I read do I need to map the keys out?
Edit: Fixed this problem as well. Can be ignored.

I was able to copy and paste the launchers.xml file to my new setup and all of the rom information is there. However, when I try to launch a game, I get the addon.py script error. Here are my files...

launchers.xml: http://pastebin.com/B5w8Y1qL

xbmc.log: http://pastebin.com/LeLXu3MK

F is the correct drive letter for my games external drive, so that shouldn't be the problem with directories.

Thanks

The Advanced Launcher directory error message is related to the application (emulator) paths that is not found and not to the roms path. For example, in your launchers.xml file, does C:\Users\urhos\Games\Gameboys\VisualBoyAdvance.exe path exists on your system or it is the path of the VisuallBoyAdvance.exe application from your previous system?

You need to setup any emulator (NES, Genesis) to recognise your gamepad action. Most of the emulator have gamepad setup options to assign you gamepad button to the emulated gamepad system.

Having a weird issue.

I tried to have two versions of Adv. Launcher running at once. I followed your youtube video. In Add-on, Programs, I can see Adv Laucher and Adv Launcher 2 which is good.

I set up Adv Laucher for games, and Adv Laucher 2 for software. I'm using Aeon MQ3 skin.

If I create two custom menu buttons (using either favorites or add-ons method), one which says Games, other Programs, and link Games to Adv Launcher 1, and link Programs to Adv Launcher 2.

Now when I go into the menus, they seem to get confused. That is, if I go into Games, it will load into Adv Launcher 1 correctly, if I then ESC back to the menu, then load into Programs it will load into that correctly. If I then ESC, and load back into Games, it will load into Programs (Adv Launcher 2).

It seems to go back to whatever was loaded last.
Not sure why its doing it
Sad

It's related to a small bug into XBMC. If 2 add-ons favorites have similar names, sometime XBMC is not able to redirect the favorite to the right add-on.

For example, Actually I have 5 duplicates versions of Advanced launcher on my XBMC system. With duplicate versions named plugin.program.advanced.launcher and plugin.program.advanced.launcher.duplicate I have the same problem as you. But with duplicate version named plugin.program.advanced.launcher and plugin.program.advanced.online.tv I do not have it.

So, my suggestion, actually to your problem, is to try to rename your duplicate version of Advanced Launcher with a name enough different than the original version of Advanced Launcher to avid this problem.

Thumbs Up

Cheers, I renamed my second adv. launcher from "plugin.program.advanced.launcher.2" to "plugin.program.advanced.programs", edited the two files again, works fine now, thanks a lot man, really appreciated. Might need to add a comment into the youtube video to save time from everyone asking?

Also, I'm sure you're aware, when I scrapped the mame stuff via arcade hits, the scrapper can't handle line breaks, <br>, so the NFO's have text with <br> in them. Not that big of an issue though, I just manually removed all the <br> from the nfo's, took some time though.

Cheers and once again, thanks for the great add-on!

Ouppsss... Did not know that. I will try to fix this for the next version. Thank you for your feedbacks.

EDIT: Fixed by new version 1.8.8.
Version 1.8.8 : This new version of Advanced Launcher just fix game plots texts scraped from ArcadeHits data scraper : automatically remove <br> HTML tags.

ChangeLog :
  • Fix ArcadeHits scraper (plots containing <br>).

Some wii games thumb / fanart isn't downloaded. When i go the edit the metadata. Search for title and search game thum / fanart. So far everything ok.

When i download the image and go back to view my games. Then there is no image, verry strange.

Which skin/view are you using?

Refocus skin

Edit: Problem solved, changed scapers and name changing folders.
I can't seem to get Snes9X to work, my rom extensions seem right zip|smc|sfc Arguments -fullscreen "%rom%" .

It starts fine but when I click on a game it just flashes for second and then nothing, doesn't say what error it is. Using windows 7
Ok, I've tried this on my own enough to realize I'm not going to be able to solve my issue myself, so I've come to you all for help.

The issue: I'm running XBMC Eden in Win7 64, with a dual display setup such that my HDTV is a secondary monitor. I want to set up Advanced Launcher (AL) to work with my many emulators on my TV. For emulators that include a display toggle (primary vs secondary), this is not a problem at all. There are others, though, that insist on latching onto the primary display (ie my monitor) exclusively for fullscreen mode (e.g., Kega Fusion, though there are others).

To get around this, I've been trying to set up an Ultramon shortcut that ought to trigger my display settings to switch, such that my HDTV becomes primary (and auto-switches back upon closing the emu program). This is not working with AL though. I can confirm that the Ultramon shortcut(s) I've created work properly when launched via Windows Explorer - but if I set the same shortcut as the application pathway in AL, it ignores the shortcut and just launches the emu as it always has: on my regular monitor. My Ultramon shortcut is being ignored completely, as the HDTV doesn't adopt primary monitor status upon launch from AL.

I can't really find any loose ends with what I'm trying, but maybe someone here can shed some light on this for me. I feel like I'm *this* close to getting this to work out, and it's driving me nuts. I'm also open to suggestions for alternate approaches. From what I've read, it seems as though a batch file might be able to help in this situation. I understand completely what a batch file is, but, unfortunately haven't a clue as to how to go about creating one from scratch (even modifying one can be a challenge, though I'm up to it if I can get a kick-start). It'd be cool someone here has either run into this exact situation, or some variation, and has a solution ready-made - that said, I'll take whatever help I can get!

Cool, that was quick, glad I can help contribute Smile!!!

@GSP-UFC, make sure your rom's have .smc after them. I'm using snex9x fine, loads normal etc. I haven't played anything though, still trying to set up my XBMC. If you're going to use a game controller for games, use AutoHotKeyL and create a script for your controller (eg xbox) where you hold "back" and press "start" to quit (to send Alt+F4) Wink

I guess make sure the emulator is working normal in Windows first, then chuck it into xbmc/adv.launcher

As tell leftywhat, if you do not have any error message that's mean that the problem is related to Snes9X and not to Advanced Launcher. Your Snes9X configuration into Advanced Launcher seems rights, so the problem could be due to several reasons :

  1. Corrupted rom files,
  2. Your roms file format or compressed format are not recognized by Snes9X,
  3. Snes9X cannot be stated by the command line (wrong video resolution, or not compatible graphic renderer, etc...)
