[AppleTV2] Codec Info Screen
#1
Question
Hi all,

is it possible to open the CodecInfoScreen (O-Key) with the original AppleTV Remote? I want to have a look at dropped frames. If it is not possible with the original remote are there other ways to get the CodecInfoScreen visible?

Are you on a mac? If so davilla showed me this neat tool he whipped together using eventclient:
http://code.google.com/p/atv-xbmc launcher/source/browse/#svn%2Fbranches%2Ftemp%2Fxbmc_remote

you run it like ./xbmc_remote (ip of device) 9777

Make sure you have 'Allow other computers to control me' enabled under Settings > Network.

That way you can use your OSX machine to control it.

I would like to know how to bring up this functionality as well. I see it enabled in this video at about the 40sec mark. Not sure how they are doing it.

If you have the latest (unofficial) build and a remote 'app' (I used the official XBMC android app):

On XBMC:
1) enable the web server (in the network settings tab)
2) then enable 'allow programs on other systems to contol xbmc'
3) set a password if desired
4) restart XBMC

On the remote app:
a) add your (above) XBMC host name, user and pass
b) connect using the above host settings

Now you will have an option like 'Use as Remote Control', from here (on Android at least) hold down your Menu hardware button to bring up your 'normal' keyboard then press the 'o' key, you should now see the regular codec (fps, cpu usage etc.) info.

N.B. The regular (HTTP page) web server may also have the same option but I haven't tried.

You can confirm keyboard functions on the XBMC Android app? Interesting.

I've heard mixed reports of that.

I've heard mixed reports of that.

I've found that the Android keyboard only works where XBMC actions/events are tied to remote commands/keys i.e. when a video is playing pressing 'o' or 'i' etc.

And not in free text fields like search for example, where XBMC would expect a 'real' keyboard input.

Not sure in which side of the divide the issue is but this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=74942 confirms the above and suggests Boxee may have remote app keyboard usage implemented.

I realy did not find a place to increase the buffer size. The mentioned advanced...xml is not on my ATV2.
In some Situations I think a bit more buffer will help. The 8GB internal Storage will be used and the RAM also will have some fun Wink

Some advice ?

You need to create the advancedsettings.xml file yourself, and then put it the userdata folder:
