You're too late because Apple stopped signing the iOS 4.2.1 firmware and you can only save SHSH blobs while Apple's still signing a version. Doesn't matter what you've done re: new versions. If you don't have SHSH blobs saved for any version that Apple's stopped signing then you can never reinstall that version. So you're only safe if you never need to reinstall 4.2.1 again.

Apple generally only signs am iOS version until a newer one is released and stabilized then they stop signing the old ones to prevent people from installing them since older versions are generally easier to jailbreak.
