I'm thinking it might be the hard drive thats the culprit here. As said above, I've no trouble with 720p and little with 1080p. But I noticed the stuttering in showcase. I listened hard and while scrolling through it all (my movies with fanart on) I noticed the hard drive sounded like it was thrashing a little bit more than I'd like. So I turned off fanart, and now the showcase mode is much better. Not perfect, but much less stutter.

Desktop
Windows 7 x64 Build 7000
Intel C2D E6600 2.4GHz
2GB RAM
Geforce 8800GT 512MB (181.71 Win7 beta drivers)
XBMC @ 1366x768 on Secondary Monitor/HDTV via HDMI (Windowed, maximized)
Background tasks: Firefox with multiple tabs, uTorrent, iTunes, whatever else I am working on
Performance is smooth; CPU usage on main menu is ~4-8% with threaded optimization off. Sometimes stutters while navigating in showcase view w/art on and flow layout but part of that is probably my harddrive. Playback is fine for everything including 1080p (thought 1080p movies take awhile to start), with CPU around 25% for 720p content and only a little higher for 1080p, but I guess that isn't skin related.
