Rec'ed Picture Size(s) in HB
#1
After months of learning I'm ready to start my custom encoding process for my ripped SD and BD DVD's. The last bit I'm wrestling with is Picture Settings.

Setup:
- aTV 2 JB'en Seas0nPass with latest iOS and nightly
- Pioneer Elite VSX-33 (handles everything thrown at it)
- 50" Pioneer Elite Kuru
- SMB to external HDD via ethernet

Everything works perfectly, esp audio now (w/ the 16-bit option on). Read a lot on Anamorphic settings. Some state Loose w/ 16 at Automatic Cropping is best. If I understand correctly this allows the mkv/mv4/etc to be outputted to the correct size depending on device, keeping the image from being distorted. Others state Strict is best.

I've been using Loose on my SD encodes. HB displays:

Picture Size: Source: 720x480, Output 720x480, Anamorphic XXX x XXX, Modulos 16

Does this mean the encode has various picture sizes that adjust accordingly?

Best settings for SD and BD?

I'm using mkv container for BD's, keeping the 1920x1080. ATV 2 can accept yet passes 720P so it should play assuming proper reference frames are set for each medium and bitrate does not exceed aTV 2's capabilities.

Worst case, I remux a near perfect 1080P mkv to mp4 using MKVtools...

Thanks guys for all your help and patience, you have all taken the time and I appreciate it very much Smile
