XBMC Live and GTX 470
#1
I can not get the audio over HDMI to work using XBMC Live and GTX 470. I have another computer running live with a gt 240 and I was able to get that to work. Any ideas?

If your card isnt detected try upgrading to the latest version of ALSA.

Yes I read that post and tried everything there and updated alsa and still no go. Only my audio devices on the motherboard are detected and not the gtx 470. I also tried updating to the latest driver from nvidia and that didnt help either.

You can try this-

1. Realtek
2. FFDShow
3. MPC-HC

You should be able to see these using Microsoft Windows Vista/7:

I suggest you try Ubuntu 11.04 to see if it detects your card. I had the exact same problem recently with a 550 Ti and couldnt get ALSA to update properly, so I installed a minimal version of Ubuntu 11 and installed XBMC Live on it. There's a guide on how to do it here. I'd imagine if a GTX 550's audio can be recognized by ALSA so could a 470's.

How about dumping us (in pastebin or the equivalent)

lspci
aplay -L
aplay -l

Then we can go from there.
Code:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `xbmc_%`.* TO 'xbmc'@'%';
IF you have a mysql problem, find one of the 4 dozen threads already open.

I'm not at my house right now (where my htpc is) but I will do a dump tonight and post.(that doesnt sound too good if you read it the wrong way Smile ) I may try techmad's suggestion of ubuntu 11.04. BTW, I appreciate all the help you guys give. Thanks!

It should be fine, but we have to see if Ubuntu even sees your device. Right now everyone is just taking stabs in the dark because we don't have any data.
Code:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `xbmc_%`.* TO 'xbmc'@'%';

Upgrade the video drivers, if your using lucid see my signature for ppas, your driver may not support you card atm.

version available on my ppa is the stable 270.41.19 I also have alsa 1.0.24

that is if your in Linux

cheers

thats information is of little value, and FYI thers a dozen dozen posts i how to get sound via HDMI on forums...

basically you should have to setup your xbmc setting to output to alsa hdmi and depending if you have full ubuntu instal or just minimal then thers other steps to do all of them have been covered to death in the forums.

That's all the information you ever need. I can tell right now that it's going to work.

-----------

1) Next time put your stuff in [ code ] blocks (and go back and edit your previous ones if you can. It's the hashmark icon)
2) This is me:
Code:
aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card [b]0[/b]: Intel [HDA Intel], device [b]1[/b]: ALC888 Digital [ALC888 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card [b]1[/b]: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device [b]3[/b]: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Since you don't have your masks set correctly, you have 4 devices showing up. Loop through them with:
Code:
speaker-test -c 2 -D plughw:[b]1,3[/b]

Until you find the one that works.

To get S/PDIF out I use
plughw:0,1

To get HDMI audio out I use
plughw:1,3

Based on your aplay -l and a reasonable IQ, you should be able to figure out which ones to test.
Code:
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON `xbmc_%`.* TO 'xbmc'@'%';
IF you have a mysql problem, find one of the 4 dozen threads already open.

that should do it, that my handholding done for the year.

@ darkscout, I would have suggested pastebin but hey.... I forgot...

OK, I got it working adding plughw:1,7 into custom in audio on xbmc did the trick. I had to install Ubuntu 11.04 for it to work though. It would not work with the xbmc live install. Now trying to figure out how to get xbmc to auto-start. I tried both suggestions on the wiki page but no go.
