XBMC is going very slow on HTPC!!
#1
this is my HTPC: http://www.ebuyer.com/267867-emachine-er...-nbzec-004

its running on windows 7 and given the specs, i thought it would run pretty well since ppl have successes with acer revo.

however, everything just seems so slow, e.g. switching through menus, the loading of backgrounds etc. can someone give me some insight in how to solve this?

the normal skin. even confluence is slowish at loading backgrounds etc.

i just ran XBMC off of open elec usb and the backgrounds were all loading very fast and easily.

Sounds like a driver problem. Re-install your display driver.

Toggle the true/fake fullscreen button in the video settings...it should fix your issue.

where would i get my display driver from? I'm not very informed on this stuff. I haven't personally d/led any drivers.

It was on true full screen on video settings.

Either nvida.com or game.amd.com I think are the two sites to go to - depending on what kind of video card is in it.

got it. ill do a fresh install of windows and reinstall the nvidia driver.

i've just tried on OPENELEC and since adding the movies, its all very laggy again. this is working off of a cheap 1GB USB stick though.. is that maybe the problem for openelec?

Unless you go out and buy a really nice USB stick, they are usually terrible OS drives.

yup learnt that the hard way now... okay im going to try and fix this windows problem first because windows is nice with the option for me to use it as a working PC in emergencies..

are there any other reasons? im going to install the new nvidia driver now and see if that helps hopefuly...

would it be worth me also changing the RAM dedicated to GPU in bios to 512MB if available?

If that option is there then do so, yes. If you don't have the nVidia driver installed then I'd expect performance to be terrible... so fingers crossed it's that problem because it's an easy fix.

On those nettops,
always make sure to allocate 512MB of Shared memory to the integrated video...
check in your BIOS as this feature is sometimes named differently,,,

But im sure you'll find it!

then, you should install this video driver

aoaaron did you get it fixed? 32 or 64 it don't matter.... 64 if you have more than 4 gigs.... I always install 64 no matter what!
