3D Full SBS (3840x1080)... Success!
I think you're correct. You definately have to have a tv that supports 4k. Also, many (maybe most) htpc's will currently have performance issues trying to playback full resolution 3D.

My tv supports 4k and my HTPC will play it (barely), but I get very high cpu temps and little real quality improvement that I can see. I know this is subjective. I'm sure there is improvement, I'm just not enough of a video guru. Or maybe my eyes are just too old. Smile

For now, if I want to watch full resolution I play the disk from my bluray player.

with the correct player (and hardware) you can get a active 1080p 3D screen to show the movie in FullHD 3D - this requires a special HDMI mode and a hardware capable of FullSBS decoding. With Kodi this is atm not possible (only with a experimental Windows build IIRC) unless you want to run your TV and Kodi permanently in 3D mode and configuring a screen resolution of 3840x1080.

Thanks for the answer!
I tried to encode a couple of chapters of a movie in H.264 FSBS (MKV container) and I faced the wrong aspect ratio issue mentioned in this thread.
But I solved it in a little different way: I reprocessed the file with MKVToolnix by forcing the correct aspect ratio (in my case was 2.35:1).
Encoding time was not so long (I used an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3600 MHz) but file size convinced me that FSBS is pretty useless.
I will rip and convert that BD in HSBS mode.
A couple of days ago I bought a BD unit, so I put it onto my HTPC. Sooner or later I'll try to play directly a 3D Blu-Ray disc with a decrypter like MakeMKV and using a player like Cyberlink PowerDVD.

Has anyone used this as an External Player in Kodi?

Hi!

Ok I made my first 3D MKV - YEAH!

It is FSBS and I am using Kodi 15.2.

What do I still need to do beside setting the display resolution to 4K?

Wait, FSBS files are now supported? Is this a substitute for the missing MVC support?

from what I have read here it works for some people but I it is not officially supported.

How come it only works for some but not for others?

You have been able to play back FSBS for quite a while the problem is that it will only work on very high end systems. Very processor intensive. I tried it on mine. Very juddery. You'ld just have to try it and see how it looks.

Do I still have to edit the MKV header or should that be "fixed"?

I'm guessing you're asking about the display resolution. I know I had to edit mine after ripping with DVDFab. That has been a while back though (Gotham I think). My system really struggles to play FSBS. Very high processor load along with high temps. Lots of dropped frames. So I haven't messed around with it much lately. HSBS works very nicely for me. If Kodi ever supports frame packed MVC I'll probably give it a try again.

mhh I found a quite recent thread that someone was warking on MVC support.

I hope I get better results as my A10 is a little overpowered for just a HTPC, so I really hope this comes in handy :-)

If the image looks "not ok" In have to try this:

"Yes. And I also used Toolnix to set the headers. Stereo Mode=1 Display Height=1080 Display Width=1920 (this is for 16:9). DVDFab did not set my headers. I had to do it manually. "

right?

Yes. If I remember correctly my image was rather squashed and I corrected it by making those changes.

grab a PI2, install a Milhouse build and enjoy 3D MVC playback

This is a little off topic, but does this build support VNC access? I was actually thinking about doing this but VNC is my primary method of controlling the HTPC since my living room tv is almost always in use. Couldn't find any real answers about VNC on Openelec. Just a bunch of questions and nothing recent.
