Small HTPC
#1
Hi,

I want to build a HTPC. What components do you recommend me?
The constraints are:
- I need a small case for one SSD. The SSD is just for the OS, the other files will be on a server.
- I also want to read DVD or Blu-ray (Blu-ray optional)
- It must display in 1920x1080.

Thanks

I have a setup with the Wesena ITX7. I have an APU (A6-3500) - so video card doesn't take place. There's also an low profile expansion slot (which could accept a TV Tuner, sound card, etc...) and a place for a slim optical disc drive. However, I don't use the slim ODD. Instead, I bought a 5.25" external enclosure and bought a standard Bluray drive to put inside.

Still waiting for my motherboard.

I'm on your back today bluray... Wink

The mATX motherboard will not fit in the ITX case.

Take this MB instead : Asrock A75M-ITX

with 5 kids in the house and full load of work at the office, this sort of thing tends to happen more frequent. Sad i copied it from my other thread and i changed the case, but completely forgot about the mobo. it's correct now, thank you bud!

the AMD A8-3850 APU would really benefit from having dual-channel RAM!!

The Asrock supports faster RAM than 1333. Might worth putting 5-10$ more on DDR3 1600.

I've read that you don't get much performance increase over 1600MHz.... so you might as well save 10$ : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6820104166

or 20$ (if directcanada.com ships to ... US?) : http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sk...e=KINGSTON

Plus you get free shipping with order over 50$.

Yeah, it's a good deal. Especially since the APU support natively DDR3 1866, so why not?!
