TV to Media PC ~ Advice
#1
Okay basically I have a Media PC - an E-machines ER1401 to be exact.

Currently wanting to connect this up to my TV in the living room. Main issue is my TV has no HDMI or VGA ports.

Looking to get this connected by:

PC (VGA) >> S-Video >> to Scart (with all in one adaptor)
PC (3.5mm Jack Plug) >> to Scart (with all in one adaptor)

Question is really, would this work, in that both audio/video would be working?
Any other suggestions would also be appreciated.

Products I intend to use:

Thanks in advance
JAM.

djashjones is correct. Not possible with your setup.

You need an S-video output on the PC for this to work. Plenty of AGP and PCI video cards that will do that, no problem. You might not find a PCIe one that would though.

Resolution's not really an issue here is it? I assume you're not using a HDTV. Standard SD TV is (IIRC) 420 lines. HDTV is 720 or 1080 lines

You could buy a VGA-RGB (SCART) convertor but it'll set you back about £40 at least. £100 for one that isn't rubbish. Save your money and buy a new TV! 32" HDTV are about £150.

Thanks for your input, a new TV is not an option at the moment - think I'll contact some cable specialists and get something that will atleast work for now.

There is loads of info on VGA->SCART conversion floating about on Google
This is a reasonable place to start

Forget spending £££££s on gear though.
That Trixes thing may be an option or not - I don't know if the nVidia ION supports composite output but I suspect it may not and This tends to support that Sad

DIY it or take a £5 punt on a fleaBay prebuilt one

You'll basically need a following wind and a dose of luck to get it working as it's hardware specific but using something like Openelec will make the most of the hardware and give you support for the modelines you'll need to create to make it work.
nVidia graphics have traditionally offered the best chance of stuff working but I've never tried ION as my TVs all went digital a few years ago

t_o_f, watching pc on tv since 93
