i am totally new to thins and con not get any scripts to work. i am not even sure if i am missing something or not. i had some scripts loaded with the version of xbmc i got but they do not work.

check and make sure your python libraries are intact... if it looks like they are overwrite and replace them then reboot.

the name of what script you are trying to run would make it easier to pinpoint the issue. usually the scripts are just exiting out then that means they are exiting out and on xbmc that usually means a bug of some sort.
