I'm pretty new to HTPCs and XBMC (built my HTPC around thanksgiving and put XBMC on it at that time, too).

I will be moving into a bigger place and want to be able to view my content in two rooms. I want to keep XBMC on the second device and I'd like for it to be synced so that if I watch an episode of something it is marked 'watched' in both rooms.

I've been doing some research online on this but I'm really not sure. Is a jailbroken apple tv 2 with xbmc on it my best option?

I don't really care about 1080p (i have very few things of this quality), so that is not a problem.

Thanks!

This can be done from any device that you run XBMC on as long as you set up the MySQL database. It will need to be stored on the original device (which can't be done on an ATV2) and then the ATV2 will be able to log to the database and it will then stay in sync. If you don't care about the 1080P then I think the ATV2 is one of the cheapest ways to go.
Set Up
Raspberry Pi running Raspbmc - XBMC 12.2
40" Samsung ES6800 LED Smart 3D 1080P TV
Onkyo HTS3405 5.1 DD True HD and DTS-HD Surround Sound
ReadyNAS Duo with 4TB (2 x 2TB X-RAID) Western Digital Caviar Green using NFS
