What should I do to improve my setups?
#1
I think my setups are well organized and efficient for my current use, but I want to move my storage to unRAID (or comparable file storage) for fault tolerance and expandability. But before forking over the cash to Newegg for a new build I wanted to know if I could just move stuff around and make more efficient setups. What would you do with the stuff below to have an XBMC frontend HTPC in 4 rooms and a separate unRAID server?

Bedroom HTPC + Server:
[OS + Software] Win7x64, MySQL, CouchPotato, SickBeard, Sabnzbd+, XBMC
[CASE + PSU] Antec NSK-6582
[MOBO] GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX
[CPU] Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775
[GPU] Galaxy 43GGS8HX3SPZ GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
[RAM] G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
[HDD (os)] Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" & Seagate ST3640323AS 640GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" (onboard RAID1)
[HDD (datastore)] Seagate 7200.11 ST31500341AS x5 (onboard RAID5)

Livingroom:
[OS + Software] Win7x64, XBMC
[CASE] Silverstone Grandia GD06B
[PSU] SeaSonic X series SS-400FL Active PFC F3 400W ATX12V Fanless 80 PLUS GOLD
[MOBO] ASUS P5KPL-CM LGA 775
[CPU] Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W
[GPU] ASUS ENGT430 DC SL/DI/1GD3 GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
[RAM] Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)
[HDD] Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s

Kid's Room:
ATV1

Kitchen:
ATV2

Spare Parts:
[CASE] Lian-Li PC-70 Black
[HDDs] Samsung by Seagate Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ/ST500DM005 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" x2
[NICs] Intel PWLA8391GT 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI Desktop Adapter PRO/1000 GT x2 & Intel EXPI9301CTBLK 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI-Express Network Adapter
[MOBO] unknown brand ATX Socket A
[CPU] AMD Athlon XP 2600
[RAM] Corsair XMS 512MB DDR2

Below is my dream list on Newegg... overkill or reality? I'm going for a 16 drive system to fit the Lian-Li PC-70...

Newegg unRAID Wishlist:
[MOBO] SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-F-O LGA 1155 Intel C204 Micro ATX Intel Xeon E3 Server Motherboard
[CPU] Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623I32100
[RAID Controller] SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 PCI Express x4 Low Profile SAS RAID Controller x2
[SATA Cables] 3ware CBL-SFF8087OCF-05M 1 Unit of .5M Multi-lane Internal (SFF-8087) Serial ATA Breakout Cable x4
[HDD Cage] SUPERMICRO CSE-M35T-1B Black 5x 3.5" Hot-swap SATA Hard Disk Drive Trays x2
[RAM] Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) ECC Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit Server Memory Model CT2KIT12872BA1067 x2

I got the Lian-Li case from CL for $50 which included the no-name motherboard and CPU. I would use them for the unRAID build but I'm not so sure about using PCI slots for SATA operations... too slow? If anyone has ideas on how to improve my plan I'm all ears Huh
